Wastewater / Drinking Water Coordinator
BB&E is a full service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering and Program/Project Management Services to Federal and private sectors.
Position Summary
BB&E is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Wastewater / Drinking Water Coordinator to join our team, supporting the Industrial Waste Water and Drinking Water programs at NASA Ames Research Center, Mountain View, CA. On-site visits are at a minimum twice per week. Position entails interfacing directly with the customer and various other professionals at the Center.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Collect waste water and drinking water samples
- Prepare compliance reports for two wastewater facilities
- Update wastewater permit applications in response to changes in regulations or site conditions
- Update drinking water permits paperwork
- Prepare monthly and quarterly summary reports for surface distribution water regulations
- Support ongoing and randomly scheduled field investigation and sampling efforts
- Support stormwater sampling activities
Key Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a NACI/CAC is required
- Certification: Grade 2 Water Distribution Operator certification is required,
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is desired
- Knowledge
- Knowledge of EPA chemical analytical methods
- Knowledge of federal, state of California, and local environmental laws, regulations, and standards
- Willingness to support diverse environmental program responsibilities and to be a detail-oriented team player
- Ability to understand the environmental issues affecting the site
- Understand and troubleshoot wastewater and drinking water utility infrastructure maintenance and repair
- Ability to conduct root cause analyses and develop corrective action plans
- General sampling skills to support ongoing soil, groundwater, and vapor intrusion investigations are desired
- Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact and effectively convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences are required; Spanish language proficiency is preferred
- Software: Proficiency using MS Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; databases and GIS a plus
- Self-Starter: Highly motivated, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines autonomously; ability to work without supervision, relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals; excellent organization skills are required
Experience & Education
- Experience: A minimum of 5+ years of experience with industrial waste water and drinking water programs, including experience collecting water samples and performing regulatory compliance duties
- Education: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline from an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited college or university is required
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to: stand/walk/kneel/crouch and to remain in a stationary position at least 60% of the time; operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms; ability to assist in mobilizing field sampling activities, repair equipment, and lift 40lbs; speak clearly so listeners can understand; understand the speech of another person; talk or hear both in person and by telephone; see details of objects that are more than a few feet away; work on-site 2-3 days a week
- Work Environment: Must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions
- PPE & Safety: Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary; may encounter hazards or contaminants during work tasks
Compensation, Benefits & Perks
- The salary range for this role is $80,000 -$135,000/year
